Having successfully completed another tree-planting event March 24 with hundreds of saplings being planted on the scenic coastline of ‘Petra tou Romiou’ (Aphrodite’s Rock), the non-profit GreenCyprusCom announced it remains committed to the revival of Cyprus’ forests, having now seen over 2,000 trees planted since the launch of it reforestation movement in 2017.

The NGO aims to bring together people who care about nature and revive the island’s greenery, by organising regular reforestation events with the support of the Department of Forests. The ‘Adopt a Tree’ initiative, aims to restore the island’s flora, by inviting the public to sponsor the purchase of a sapling and provide proper care for it to take root.

Centuries ago, Cyprus was known as the “green island”, with more than a half of its territory being covered in forests. The goal of the organisation is to plant more than 20,000 trees in the next years, as to maintain and develop the forest areas in the long term bringing the island back to its previous green glory,” said entrepreneur and philanthropist German Lillevyali, Chairman of the Public Council of GreenCyprusCom, as well as financier and President of GL Financial Group.
