CYPRUS: €35m pledged for Famagusta projects

The government has around EUR 35 mln to fund infrastructure projects in Famagusta district and generate jobs. This follows a similar pledge of EUR 16 mln for the Troodos area two weeks ago, EUR 60 mln for projects in Paphos, and EUR 70 mln each for Limassol and Larnaca in July.
 
Making the announcement on Monday, President Nicos Anastasiades said that EUR 32.2 mln had already been spent for projects in the area from 2013 to 2016, while the current year’s budget included EUR 23.3 mln.
The new projects announced this week include works at the Paralimni high school and the Ayia Napa elementary school, upgrading of a cycling path from Ayia Napa to Cavo Greco, a kindergarten in Dherynia, a volleyball court and underwriting municipalities’ government-guaranteed loans, totalling some EUR 8 mln in the Famagusta district.
Anastasiades also spoke about progress in the Ayia Napa marina, and plans for the Paralimni marina at an investment of EUR 100 mln.
