The Aphrodite Hills Golf Club recently received the Green Club environmental quality recognition, with the facility’s director Andrew Darker saying that further measures are being introduced to keep abreast of sustainable tourism requirement.

Dr Michalis Iereides, General Secretary of the environmental agency Cymepa said that the Green Key quality recognition is awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), an international NGO that aims to promote sustainable development and environmental education. He said that the Green Club is a prioneering pilot programme to recognise eco-friendly golf clubs and shares the same criteria as the Green Key (Attractions), but adapted for golf clubs.
The requirements for the Green Club recognition include energy consumption, water use, waste disposal, use of eco-friendly personal hygiene products and detergents, food and drinks quality, and environmental training.
