CYPRUS: Retail trade drops, up in Eurozone

The seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade rose by 0.7% in February compared with January in both the euro area (EA19) and the EU28, according to estimates from Eurostat.


 
In January, the retail trade volume increased by 0.1% in the euro area and by 0.2% in the EU28. In February compared with a year earlier, the calendar adjusted retail sales index increased by 1.8% in the euro area and by 2.2% in the EU28.
On a monthly basis, the highest increases in the total retail trade volume were registered in Portugal (+3.1%), Croatia (+2.8%) and Slovenia (+2.3%), while the largest decreases were in Malta (-0.8%), Latvia (-0.7%) and Belgium (-0.6%).
On an annual basis, the highest increases in the total retail trade volume were observed in Slovenia (+16.8%), Luxembourg (+12.9%), Lithuania (+7.6%) and Romania (+7.5%), while decreases in Belgium (-3.2%), Malta (-0.9%) and Denmark (-0.2%).
In Cyprus, a decrease of -0.9% was recorded in January.
