TELECOM: MTN Cyprus hosts crucial EIG conference

One of the most important conferences in the telecommunications sector, that of the Management Committee of EIG (Europe India Gateway) took place in Limassol recently, under the auspices of MTN.


 
MTN Group, one of the most important partners in EIG is one of the most important cable systems in the world, together with another 15 telecommunications operators from around the world. The Europe India Gateway cable is over 15,000 km in length and starts from the United Kingdom, crossing Portugal, Gibraltar, Monaco, France, Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Djibouti, Oman, UAE to end up in India.
Attending the conference of the Managing Committee, were representatives from the telecommunications partners of the aforementioned countries along with the leadership team of EIG. They all met in Limassol and exchanged opinions and ideas on the future of the EIG cable system.
The President of EIG, Rab Paramothayan of Gibtelecom, who was present at the conference, described the organisation of the conference as flawless. Together with the Managing Committee some important decisions were made in order to ensure the continuing response to the always increasing demand of the network. Paramothayan thanked MTN not only for the impeccable hospitality but also for its important contribution to the Conference.
On behalf of the MTN Group, John Paul Bagiire was present and stated that MTN is proud to host the Conference of the Management Committee in Cyprus and added: “Conducting the annual EIG Meeting conference in Cyprus is a recognition of the value ascribed by EIG to the MTN Group, as this cable system serves an important number of the branches of MTN in Africa and the Middle East”.
