CYPRUS: Annual lecture in economics on fiscal federalism

The Bank of Cyprus, the Central Bank of Cyprus and the Cyprus Economic Society are hosting the 2016 Annual Lecture in Economics, on June 2, on “Fiscal Federalism: Public Goods, Transfers, and Common Pools”.


This is a public lecture organised annually with a renowned economist. This year’s speaker is Professor Juergen Von Hagen.
The event will take place at 6pm on Thursday, June 2, at the Bank of Cyprus Head Office, Solon Triantafyllides Conference Hall, Nicosia.
Juergen von Hagen is Professor of Economics at the University of Bonn. He is a research fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), a member of the Council of the German Economic Association and the Academic Advisory Council of the German Federal Ministry of Economics, and a former member of the Council of the European Economic Association and the French National Economic Committee. He was elected into the German Academy of Science, Academia Leopoldina, in 2002.
Professor von Hagen’s research covers the areas of public finance, fiscal institutions and fiscal performance, international macroeconomics, and monetary economics. His publications include over 90 articles on monetary, international, and public economics in leading international, refereed academic journals and over 100 contributions to other journals and books, and 20 published or edited monographs.
He has been a consultant to the IMF, the European Commission, the US Federal Reserve Board, the Interamerican Development Bank, the World Bank, and numerous governments in and outside Europe, including the government of Cyprus 2003-2004.
