CYPRUS: Βounced cheques drop to €3.36m in 2014

The total value of bounced cheques in the island’s banking system, dropped to EUR 3,106,319 in 2014, according to the Central Information Registry of the Central Bank of Cyprus.


This is down to nearly half of the value of the previous year when EUR 5,673,450 worth of 3,080 cheques had bounced.
In December alone, dishonoured cheques were worth a total EUR 254,795, compared to 268,596 in the previous month and 270,266 in December 2013.
In 2014, a total of 2,250 bounced cheques were recorded by the CIR, issued by 1,155 individuals or companies. With the number of newcomers to the CIR up by 80 in December 2014, compared to 124 added in December 2013, the total number of people and companies black-listed as having issued bounced cheques is presently at 852. This is down from 999 in 2013 and 1,907 who were black-listed in 2012.
