ENERGY: European Parliament Committee delegation to visit Cyprus in 2015

A delegation of the European Parliament Committee which deals with matters of energy security will be paying Cyprus a visit in September 2015.

In statements during a press lunch Cypriot MEP Neoklis Sylikiotis said the delegation of MEPs are visiting Cyprus following his proposal.

The goal, he noted, was to promote Cyprus significance in Europe`s energy security.

The visit will take place so that the Committee can have a better understanding of energy matters in Cyprus, he said, adding that this would help the country persuade of its own and other regional hydrocarbons reserves significance to European energy security.

At the same time Sylikiotis also referred to another proposal he put forward which has been adopted concerning the participation of former State Hydrocarbons Company (KRETYK) President Charles Ellinas in a European Parliament hearing on November 5 on energy matters.

Exploratory drilling of the ENI / KOGAS consortium started recently, with the drilling rig Saipem 10000 reaching the seabed of its first well at "Onasagoras" site in the block "9" of Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone.

Consortium ENI/KOGAS has been awarded exploration licenses in Cyprus EEZ, namely in Blocks 2,3 and 9.

ENI completed 2 seismic surveys, and is planning to drill 6 wells in the coming 18 months.

Exploration and appraisal drilling in Block 12 of Cyprus` EEZ by Noble Energy&Delek has shown estimated reserves of 3.6 Tcf to 6 Tcf, namely 5 Tcf. Further exploration is planned by the consortium.
