Cyprus sees fifth biggest EU drop in road deaths

Cyprus recorded the fifth biggest drop in road accident fatalities in the whole of EU (decrease of 14%) between 2010-2013, while the average in the bloc was only 18%, the 8th Road Safety PIN Report of the European Transport Safety Council says.
According to the findings of the report, in 2013 a total of 51 road accident fatalities were recorded.
The report points out that overall 2013 was a good year for road safety in the EU and the fatalities recorded a decrease of 8%.
In Cyprus the decrease in injuries was 60%, compared with 30% in the whole of EU.
Cyprus has pledged to reduce all road accident injuries by 50% in the period between 2010-2020.
In 2013 26,025 people were killed in the EU as a consequence of road collisions.
