MTN Cyprus clinches police mobile deal

MTN Cyprus has concluded a three-year agreement for the supply of mobile communications to members of the police force.
The deal is worth EUR 252,000 and the bidders included state-owned telco Cyta and recently-licensed mobile provider Primetel, with MTN submitting the lowest when the tender was first published in February.
CEO Philip van Dalsen had declared earlier this year that the island’s second-biggest telco is already in discussion with other government services to offer lower-cost mobile and fixed-line connections, in an effort to break Cyta’s monopoly.
Van Dalsen recently told the Financial Mirror that the long-term aim for 2014-2015 is to reach a 50% market share of the whole telephony market.
