The President of Cyprus said on Wednesday that he looks forward to making the most of the prospects of the political cooperation with Russia.
Addressing a reception hosted by the Russian Ambassador in Nicosia on the occasion of the Russian Day, President Nicos Anastasiades expressed his government’s deep appreciation for Russia’s principled stance on the Cyprus problem.
“My government looks forward to making the most out of the multidimensional prospects of our political cooperation, in particular harsh times. Russia’s contribution to shaping the international scene is essential to effectively dealing with our common challenges and achieve geopolitical stability at international and regional level,” Anastasiades said.
To this end, he noted, “Cyprus in its capacity as an EU member state has, as it has already proven, the political will to contribute in a pragmatic and constructive spirit to consolidate trust, strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation in the wider European area”.
“I am convinced that our common intention and desire is to continuously upgrade and enrich the multidimensional relations of our countries at bilateral and regional level, benefiting our traditional friendship and solidarity,” the President said.
Anastasiades expressed his appreciation that a large number of Russian citizens who do business and invest in Cyprus, continue to trust and support his country, noting that this is a proof of the deep friendship between Russians and Cypriots, especially during these difficult time for Cyprus.
He also said that the government seeks enhancement of tourist flow from Russia to Cyprus.
In his address, Russian Ambassador to Cyprus Stanislav Osadchiy reiterated his country’s principled stance on the Cyprus issue.
He said that the recent visit to Cyprus of the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister has proven the existing high level of the bilateral relations between the two countries and has confirmed their mutual willingness to further develop bilateral cooperation and for a regular exchange of visits, at the highest level.
