Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) appointed an experienced fellow member as the new Regional Managing Director of RICS Europe, Russia & CIS. His mission is bringing ethical and professional standards to the European property market and offering access to the most sought after professional status.

As from May 2014, he will be looking to develop the profile and standing of RICS across Continental Europe, Russia & CIS, strengthening member services whilst reaching out for new members. Maarten’s first task will be to establish RICS strategic priorities in this world region.

Maarten has many years of experience in the real estate sector and joins from Composition Capital Partners where he recently worked as Europe Director and responsible for a significant portfolio of equity investments across Europe. Prior to that, he worked with Protego Real Estate Investors, Lasalle Investment Management and Bouwfonds Asset Management.

Commenting on his appointment, Mark Walley, RICS Regional Managing Director EMEA, said: “I am delighted to be welcoming Maarten to the leadership team of RICS EMEA. The breadth and variety of Europe and Russia provide us with many challenges, and Maarten’s extensive experience in investment and asset management will give us a major advantage in the market.

“RICS has many opportunities to expand in Europe – and, as a fellow of RICS, I believe that Maarten is uniquely placed to ensure that the standards and aspirations of the profession remain at the very top of the agenda.”

Maarten Vermeulen added “I am excited about this challenging position within RICS, as I firmly believe in the organisation’s global vision and core objectives, based on developing, regulating and enforcing professional standards, as well as bringing confidence to consumers.

I am looking forward to working with a diverse and dynamic team, present in more than 30 European countries and representing around 6,450 members, 1,650 candidates for membership and over 5,600 students.”
