Nicosia Municipality and the Cyprus Space Exploration Organisation (CSEO) are organising the first Space Week in Nicosia, between April 7 and 13, during which a series of events about space will take place.

During the first Space Week of Nicosia, the public will have the opportunity to participate in a series of recreational and educational activities, whereas scientists will engage in the creation of innovative proposals to address the challenges of space research and problems of the earth, Nicosia Mayor Constantinos Giorkatzis told a press conference on Monday.

CSEO President George Danos said the week will highlight the constructive role Cyprus and its scientists could play in broadening scientific and technological frontiers in relation to space, boosting Cyprus competitiveness and economy in general.

During the Space Week there will be space documentary screenings and space experiments, science lectures, star nights with telescope observations and a space party.

Among the events is the visit of the Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Volkov to Nicosia and the NASA Space Apps contest, that will take place at the University of Cyprus.

The events are supported by ΝASA, Roscosmos and the European Space Association.
