Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates will be for the second consecutive year the proud sponsor of the Six & Plus Cyprus team competing in the national student competition «Cyprus F1 in Schools 2014». Six & Plus team from Saint George’s High School in Larnaca will seek to win the national competition and progress to the finals of the F1 in Schools™ World Challenge taking place this year in Abu Dhabi.

«Six & Plus» team is participating for the second time in this competition, having excelled last year’s nationals and travelled with Etihad Airways to Austin, Texas in the US representing Cyprus at the F1 in Schools™ World Challenge finals.

F1 in Schools™ World Challenge was introduced in the UK in 2000 and has since expanded to more than 30 countries, reaching over 17.000 students around the world. The project challenges students to create an F1 team. The team has to design, construct and race the fastest miniature F1 car of the future. Each team also creates a ‘pit display’ and showcases their work in developing their race car, with a verbal and written presentation for the judges. The cars race on a 20 metre track. The record time of 1.02 seconds was set by Team FUGA from Northern Ireland at the 2007 World Finals.

Each of the Six & Plus team members from Saint George’s High School in Larnaca were chosen to join the team after displaying remarkable knowledge in engineering, design, marketing and management. The Six & Plus team members are: Andreas Koumenis (Leader, Manufacturing Engineer), George Constantinou (Design Engineer), Mira Skarou (Marketing and Communication Manager), Vasilis Mavraganis (Graphic Designer), Marina Louka (Resources Manager), Sophia Tsilides (Resources Manager) and Constantinos Lekakis (Coordinator Teacher, Mechanical Engineer).
