Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot negotiators hold new meeting Monday

Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot negotiators, Andreas Mavroyiannis and Kudret Ozersay, are set to meet again Monday afternoon to continue the screening phase of the ongoing Cyprus talks.

Deputy Special Adviser of the UN Secretary General on Cyprus Lisa Buttenheim will be present at the meeting.

The negotiators’ last meeting was held March 14.

Cyprus was divided in 1974 when Turkey invaded the island and occupied its northern third.

UN-backed talks resumed in February this year, following an agreed Joint Declaration. President Anastasiades and Eroglu have already met once while the negotiators of the two sides, Andreas Mavroyiannis and Kudret Ozersay, have regular weekly meetings.

Anastasiades and Eroglu are set to meet again on March 31.

Outgoing UN Secratary General`s Special Adviser on Cyprus Alexander Downer will be visiting Cyprus on 25-27 March and will bid farewell to the community leaders.

Downer was in New York on 19-20 March 2014 for his farewell visit, where he provided a thorough assessment to the Secretary-General and his key advisers on the state of play in the Cyprus negotiations, along with recommendations for the future, as he prepares to step down as Special Adviser in mid-April.
