The town of Larnaca – on the southeastern coast of Cyprus – will be candidate for European Youth Capital 2018.

This was decided during a meeting of Larnaca Municipal Council held on Monday.
According to a press release, Larnaka Mayor Andreas Louroutsiatis said that the Municipality will seek cooperation with governmental, semi-governmental and private organizations of the town and all over Cyprus with a view to prepare the proposal of its candidature.

“Our aim is to reinforce innovation both in Cyprus and in Europe, giving opportunities and tools to enhance youth employment,” he noted.
He said that both himself and the Municipal Council will make every possible effort so that Larnaca becomes in 2018 the new European Youth Capital.
