The new chairman of the Board of Directors of Cyprus Tourism Organization (CTO) Costas Kadis has expressed readiness to work methodically with enthousiasm for better days to come in tourism.

In statements prior to the beginning of the first Board meeting, held yesterday, Kadis expressed satisfaction with the fact that distinguished people participate in the new Board of Directors who are willing and able to contribute to the improvement of the Organization and to the development of tourism in Cyprus for the benefit of the economy and the country at large.

“We will work methodically, with a lot of enthousiam and passion, in collaboration with the Directorate General and the staff of the Organization for better days to come in Cypriot tourism, the island`s economy and our country in general," he noted.

On his part, the Director General of CTO Marios Hannides said that "last year was very difficult for the economy and for tourism”, adding that “we found ourselves facing many challenges which we managed to address”.

He said that despite the drop in tourism following a Eurogroup decision on Cyprus last March, which in some cases exceeded 70 %, tourism results for 2013 were at the same level as in 2012.

CTO had announced an increase in state revenues from tourism of over 9%, he said.

He expressed optimism and the belief that with the new composition of the Board of the CTO, the Organization "will be able to achieve even better results in 2014 which could support the economy of the country and its citizens in this very difficult time for the economy”.
