"food from the heart", the Cyprus-based charitable venture started by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou's Philanthropic foundation, is to open two new outlets in Limassol serving lunchtime snacks to the needy. Following the huge uptake at its first kitchen located at Stelios House, it became apparent that the scale of help needed would require additional distribution points. Since the opening back in May, the foundation's local management has been encouraging franchise applications from fellow Cypriots willing to give back to society.

The two new sites at 9 Lysis St and 5 Florinis St, Kapsalos will first register and then donate one lunchtime snack (usually a ham and cheese sandwich) to beneficiaries. The project aims to supplement existing help from other church and voluntary groups who have banded together to help those in distress following the island's financial collapse earlier in the year. The existing outlet is now handing out nearly 600 snacks every day with a special gift during the holiday season of a sliced turkey and cheese sandwich.

Sir Stelios said "I am constantly surprised at the generosity of those willing to help out during times of crisis. I know our two new franchisees will not only add to the existing relief effort but will also bang the drum for the foundation with a view to getting more franchisees up and running as soon as possible."
