The use of mobile broadband connection in 2013 by Cypriot enterprises reached 56.2% compared to 49.0% in 2012, according to the results of the annual survey "Information and Communication Technologies Usage and E-Commerce in Enterprises 2013", announced Monday Cyprus` Statistical Service.
With regard to e-Commerce, the percentage of enterprises that accepted orders remains stable at 8,4% while the percentage of enterprises that placed orders decreases to 13.2% in 2013 compared to 18.6% in 2012 (percentage on enterprises using computers).
The survey covered 1.360 enterprises with 10 or more employees in specific categories of economic activity. The data were collected with personal interviews and it covered all the government controlled areas of the Republic of Cyprus. The reference period was January 2013.
The percentage of the enterprises that provide their employees with portable devices that allow a mobile connection to the Internet for business use increases to 57.9% in 2013 compared to 49.2% in 2012.
The maximum contracted download speed of the Internet ranges between 2Mbit/s and 10Mbit/s for the vast majority of the enterprises that use the Internet (75.6%) based on the contracts of the Internet Service Providers. In addition, 17,8% of the enterprises using the Internet have maximum contracted download speed between 10Mbit/s and 30Mbit/s, a percentage that increased significantly compared to 2012 (7.6%).
At the same time, 41.0% of the enterprises are using social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, etc). Large enterprises (250+ employees) are using social media more than medium or small enterprises since the percentage for large enterprises reaches 72.8%. The main reason that enterprises use social media is the development of the enterprise image or market products (88.0% of the enterprises using social media).
The percentage of the enterprises that have a website increase by 7.4% compared to 2012, reaching 70.8% in 2013. According to the data, 95.0% of them offer access to product catalogues and price lists.
Farther more, 34.5% of the enterprises use the Electronic Procurement Systems (e-Procurement) of the Treasury.
