The Parliamentary Committee on the Environment has concluded the discussion on a package of proposed legislative measures aimed at incorporating into the national legal order the acquis communautairre on the prevention and control of industrial emissions and industrial waste.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Environment Adamos Adamou has said that the bills are expected to be sent to the plenary session of the House on December 12 for a vote.

Adamou said that changes in the legislation were made in order to secure that the goal of protecting the environment and health and the safety of residents is met and at the same time 1.100 businesses and industries will avoid closure, by fulfilling their legal obligations.

Already the European Union has sent a warning letter, Adamou noted, adding that the European Commission has been notified by the Parliament that the legislation will be voted by the end of the year, in order for Cyprus to avoid paying a penalty for failing to comply with the relevant European law.
