The level of water in dams declined in comparison to the corresponding period in 2012, a fact related also to the limited autumn rainfall this year.

According to preliminary data of the Meteorological Service, November rainfall in the Government controlled area was recorded at 21.3 mm, amounting to 40% of the normal average rainfall for November.

Rainfall was also decreased for the period between October 1st – November 26th (37.5) mm as it reached only 42% of the corresponding normal average rainfall.

As a result, water inflow to the dams was reduced.

According to data released by the Water Development Department, total dam inflows for the period October 1st – November 26th were limited to 952,000 cubic meters. Inflows for October 2012 were 748,000 cubic meters and for November 2012 3,182,000 cubic meters.

Reduced dam inflows contributed to reduce of the total water concentration in Cypriot dams to 56,7% of the total capacity form 70,4% it was at November 27 2012.

According to the same data, total concentration was reduced from March 7 when it reached this year’s peak at 257,000,000 cubic meters, to 164,969,000 cubic meters.
