Cypriot wins silver medal in Laser World Championship

Cypriot Pavlos Kontides has won the silver medal at the 2013 Laser World Championship which took place in Oman.

“The Cypriot champion showed stability and remarkable concentration and took second position in the 2013 Laser World Championships in Oman and reminded everyone his prominent position in world sailing”, according to the Cyprus Sailing Federation.

On Saturday final day of the event, Pavlos fought for the gold medal, but in yesterday’s only race (due to lack of wind) he took the13th position, which kept him in second place overall, giving him the silver medal.

Kontides finished the event with 42 points, 13 behind the gold medallist Brazilian Robert Scheidt. Bronze medal went to German Philip Buhl who gathered 68 points.
Kontides earned a silver medal in August 2012 at the London Olympics and took the second position in October 2013 at the ISAF World Cup in China.
