Ocean Basket wins Cyprus Green Key award

The Ocean Basket chain of 7 restaurants in Cyprus has won the Green Key awarded to hotels and restaurants in more than 2000 establishments in 36 countries.

According to the environmental group CYMEPA, Cyprus representative of Foundation for Environmental Education FEE, the criteria for the award include environmental management, involvement of employees, environmental information for customers, saving water, energy, resources and waste management.
The National Steering Committee was formed in 2006 and includes representatives of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, the Department of the Environment, the Cyprus Hotel Association, the Association of Cyprus Tourist Enterprises, Louis Hotels, the Cyprus Hotel Managers Association and CYMEPA.
Cyprus is the second country to award restaurants with the prestigious ecolabel after France. The first restaurant in Cyprus to win the Green Key was Arhontiko Papadopoulou at Kornos in 2011.
The Ocean Basket is part of a franchise group with 160 restaurants, mostly in South Africa. In 2008 the first Ocean Basket opened in Paphos. There are two more in Limassol, and one in Nicosia, Larnaca, Agia Napa and Protaras.
The award was presented at a modest ceremony at Ocean Basket offices in Aradippou on September 18.
