Cyprus CPI down 1.46% in July

* Summer discounts push prices down *

The Consumer Price Index for July decreased by 1.75 units or 1.46% to 118.04 units compared to 119.79 in June, according to the Statistical Service Cystat. This is mainly due to decrease in the prices of clothing and footwear due to summer sale discounts as well as to decreases in the prices of air fares, electricity and certain fresh fruit and vegetables.
Increases were recorded in the prices of potatoes and petroleum products.
The rate of inflation for July decreased by -0.3% compared to 0.1% in June 2013 and 2.2% in July 2012. It is noted that the rate of inflation is negative for the third time in the last four months.
For the period January-July 2013, the CPI recorded an increase of 0.5% compared to the corresponding period of 2012.
