The Cyprus issue was among issues discussed on Thursday between US President Barack Obama and Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, during an hour-long meeting at the White House.

Speaking after the meeting Obama said Greece is situated in a region with challenges and difficulties, and can play a significant stabilising role and give solutions to problems, including that of Cyprus.
According to a report by the Athens News Agency, Samaras said there was a window of opportunity for Cyprus and noted that there were also huge energy resources in the triangle of Greece, Cyprus and Israel.

Regarding the financial situation in Greece, Obama said austerity measures were not enough and that growth and new jobs were necessary for recovery.
He also mentioned the friendship among the two countries, with special reference to the Greek-American community in the US.
