The Committee of Cyprus Occupied Municipalities has launched two island-wide competitions, one for art and another for photography, entitled “Places, faces, memories from Occupied Cyprus”. The competition aims to offer youths born after the 1974 invasion the opportunity to creatively project their impressions and feelings on occupied Cyprus and the refugee world.

The 20 best works from each competition will be presented during an event to condemn the establishment of the pseudo-state, which will be held by the Committee of Cyprus Occupied Municipalities on 15 November, 2013, at Famagusta Gate.

Cypriot youths aged 15 to 35 years old living in Cyprus or abroad can take part in the two competitions. Each work (painting or photograph) must be accompanied by a short story, narration, description, maxim or poem, of no more than 150 words. 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes will be awarded, as well as three commendations for the runners up in each competition (commemorative plaques and certificates). The 1st prize winner will receive €200, the 2nd €150 and the 3rd €100, while all participants will be given participation diplomas. The winners will be chosen by a panel comprising professionals and personalities well respected within their fields.

All works with their accompanying text and entry form can be submitted to the offices of the Union of Cyprus Municipalities, at the address: 78 Rigainis Street, 1010 Nicosia (8:30 am – 3:00 pm) or sent by post to P.O. Box 22033, 1516, Nicosia. The final day of submissions is Monday, 30 September 2013, 3:00 pm.
