Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill I of Moscow was briefed Tuesday on the condition of Cyprus’ economy, by the Primate of the Church of Cyprus Chrysostomos II, who is visiting Russia.

The two men discussed a series of issues that concern relations between the two Churches and the Christian Church in general.
Kirill thanked Chrysostomos for his support to Russian entrepreneurs that were hit recently by the crisis in Cyprus, while the Archbishop of Cyprus briefed the Patriarch about the situation in the island, as well as about the work of the Church.

Chrysostomos is in Russia to attend celebrations to mark the 1025th anniversary of Baptism of Kievan Rus, which marked the spread of Christianity across modern Russia, Ukraine and other countries in the region.
Kirill welcomed Chrysostomos, who in turn wished the people and the Church of Russia well. “We came here to pass the message of a united, orthodox, global Church” the Archbishop of Cyprus said.

The two men also discussed the situation of the Christian population in the Middle East and the need to convene soon the future Great Synod of Orthodoxy. Celebration will culminate on Wednesday, July 24, during a mass at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, in Moscow.
