Cyprus secures gold in women’s 200m in Mediterranean Games

Cyprus secured its first gold medal in the 2013 Mediterranean Games held in Turkey with Eleni Artimata in the women`s 200m.

In the women`s 200m final, Artimata finished first clocking a time of 23.18. She was followed by Italy` Libania Grenot and Turkey`s Nimet Karakus. Cyprus` second athlete competing in the women`s 200 m final, Anna Ramona Papaioannou, finished fifth.

This is Artimata`s second consecutive gold medal in the Mediterranean Games, the first being in Pescara, Italy, in 2009.

Apart from Artimata`s gold medal, Cyprus has secured two bronze medals in women`s rowing with Anna Ioannou and in women`s Taekwondo with Kyriaki Kouttouki.
