Cyprus trade deficit decreased by 300 bl in 1Q of 2013

Cyprus trade deficit marked a decrease of 300 million euro in the first quarter of 2013, compared to the same period of 2012.

According to Eurostat, the Statistical office of the European Union, Cyprus total exports for the period January-March 2013 reached 300 million euro, marking an increase of 2% compared to the same period last year. During the same period, the imports marked a decrease of 16%, reaching 1.2 billion euro.

In Greece, total exports reached 6.5 billion euro, marking an increase of 5% compared to the same period of 2012, and the total imports decreased by 8% to 11.7 billion from 12.7 in 2012.

The first estimate for the euro area (EA17) trade in goods balance with the rest of the world in April 2013 gave a 14.9 billion euro surplus, compared with +3.3 bn in April 2012.

As for the EU27, imports from China in the first three months of 2013 were 67.8 billion euro (down by 3%), from Russia were 54.4 billion (down by 3%) and from USA were 48 billion (down by 10%).

At the same time, as regards EU27 export to China reached 34.2 billion (decrease 4%), to Russia reached 28.7 billion (increase 2%) and to USA reached 70.3 billion (decrease 2%).

The EU27 trade surplus increased with the USA (+22.3 bn euro in January-March 2013 compared with +18.4 bn in January-March 2012), Switzerland (+19.2 bn compared with +11.4 bn)

and Turkey (+6.5 bn compared with +5.7 bn). The EU27 trade deficit declined with China (-33.6 bn compared with -34.2 bn), Russia (-25.7 bn compared with -27.0 bn), Norway (-10.7 bn compared with -15.7 bn) and Japan (-0.9 bn compared with -3.4 bn).
