Cyprus remains a serious and attractive place to invest, despite economic hardships, Communications and Works Minister Tasos Mitsopoulos said today.

He added that the Cabinet would convene during the next two days – on Monday and Tuesday – to discuss exclusively the potential for investments and major development projects.
Foreign interest to invest in Cyprus is increasing the Minister went on. He added that the stabilization of the economy, following a bailout agreement between Cyprus and its international lenders (European Commission, ECB, IMF), will soon lead to a track of hope and recovery.

Mistsopoulos named the old Larnaca airport area as a place where major investments could take place, adding that his Ministry will attempt, together with the Cyprus airports managing company, Hermes, to explore potential investors’ interest.
He added that Chinese interest for investing in the country is still there, and said that he had already a series of meetings with Chinese investment groups interested in various areas, including energy.

Mitsopoulos said finally that once changes in the legal framework allow it, the government will proceed with casino licenses to foreign investors.
