A high level delegation of the Court of Justice of the European Union will pay Cyprus an official visit 1-4 September.

The visit takes place upon the invitation of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Cyprus.

The delegation, headed by President of the Court Vassilios Skouris, will be received by President of the Republic Demetris Christofias at the Presidential Palace. In addition, the delegation will hold a meeting with President of the House of Representatives Yiannakis Omirou and members of the House Committees on Legal Affairs, European and External Affairs.

During their visit, they will also meet the President and the members of the Cyprus Supreme Court.

The Court of Justice interprets EU law to make sure it is applied in the same way in all EU countries. It also settles legal disputes between EU governments and EU institutions. Individuals, companies or organisations can also bring cases before the Court if they feel their rights have been infringed by an EU institution.
