No date has yet been confirmed for the next Troika mission to Cyprus, according to the European Commission.

In statements to CNA, Vandna Kalia, Press Officer of European Commission`s Vice President Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs Olli Rehn, said that the date of the next Troika mission (Commission, ECB, IMF) to Cyprus has not yet been confirmed.

Invited to comment on the statements made by Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja that Finland has contingency plans for a possible breakup of the euro, she recalled the responses of other members of the Finnish Government, restating the position of the Finnish Government which is that it is 100% committed to the euro.

As she told CNA, Vice President Olli Rehn said recently that "the euro is irreversible and it is essential that we maintain the unity of the euro area."

Kalia added that Rehn has also stated that the Commission is working very hard to overcome the sovereign debt crisis and to rebuild the economic and monetary union – and that is to reform and reinforce the very foundations of the euro and the eurozone.

Concluding, she said that on June 29, 2012 the leaders of the eurozone countries underlined their strong and unambiguous commitment to do what is necessary to ensure financial stability.

The Government of the Republic of Cyprus informed on the 25th of June 2012 the appropriate European Authorities of its decision to submit to euro area Member States a request of financial assistance from the EFSF/ESM.

The purpose of the required assistance is to contain the risks to the Cypriot economy, notably those arising from the negative spillover effects through its financial sector, due to its large exposure in the Greek economy
