Cypriot nationals visiting London for the Olympic or/and Paralympic Games which will be held from 27 July to 12 August and from 29 August to 9 September respectively, are cautioned that the transport system will be extremely busy, especially in the areas close to the venues.

According to an official press release, if Cypriot citizens are going to a London 2012 sports event or ceremony, it’s important to plan and book their journey well in advance and to follow news reports on local Authorities’ decisions that may affect their travel schedules.

There is no spectator parking at London 2012 venues – so the use of public transport is highly recommended. Local Police and Security Agencies will take strict measures to ensure that Games-related sites and venues are safe and secure and that appropriate mitigations are in place to protect the large numbers of people travelling to the Games. Security screenings for spectators will be tight and widespread, with airport-style checks at most venues. Terrorism poses the greatest security threat to the Games. The British Authorities define the threat level as “substantial”.

Cypriot citizens are kindly advised to use extreme caution and cooperate with the Police. For more information please visit the official site of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games – www.london2012.com

In case of emergency, interested persons may contact the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus in London or call 999 if police, fire or ambulance services are urgently needed.
