Cyprus tourism revenue rises 12.9% in 2011

**Promising start to 2012 in January**

Revenue from tourism rose by 12.9% in 2011, according to the Statistical Service—higher than the 10.1% increase in tourism arrivals.
For the period January – December 2011 revenue is estimated at EUR 1,749.3 mln compared with EUR 1,549.8 mln in 2010.
In December alone, revenue rose by 1.9% over the year earlier to reach EUR 41.6 mln compared with EUR 40.9 mln in the corresponding month of 2010.

Arrivals up 7.1% in January

There was also a promising start to 2012, with arrivals of tourists rising by 7.1% over the year earlier in January to 47,610 compared with 44,442 in January 2011.
An increase of 4.9% was recorded in tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom (from 15,292 in January 2011 to 16,040 in January 2012) and 8.1% from Greece (from 7,286 to 7,879 this year).
However, after rising by nearly 50% for the whole of 2011, arrivals from Russian dropped by 11% to 3,446 in January 2012 compared with 3,873 in January 2011.
