London School of Economics and Political Science is hosting a high-level conference on the Cyprus economy on February 10th in London.
International and Cypriot specialist speakers will discuss “The Cyprus Economy at a Time of European Uncertainty: Managing Reform & Sustainability”.
The conference is being organised by The Hellenic Observatory & LSEE – Research on South Eastern Europe departments at LSE.
International speakers include a specialist from Standard & Poor’s, the agency that just downgraded Cyprus to junk status, who will talk about budgetary management, and Rick van der Ploeg, Professor of Economics at the University of Oxford, who will talk about management of resource wealth, a topic that is particularly relevant since the discovery of 7 to 9 trillion cubic feet of gas in Cypriot waters.
The Nobel-prize winning economist, Chris Pissarides, as well as the Minister of Commerce, Praxoula Antoniadou-Kyriacou will address the morning session, while a range of other experts will discuss the challenges for macroeconomic policy, reform of the business and financial sectors, and strengthening and diversifying the economy.
The event is sponsored by Marfin Popular Bank, Deloitte and Commercial Bank of Greece.
Attendance is free but attendees must register through the European Institute section at LSE’s eShop: http://eshop.lse.ac.uk.
