Outbound tourism falls in Nov as inbound rises

Outbound tourism fell in November whereas inbound tourism continued to record a healthy increase, according to the Passengers Survey.
In November 69,768 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad, which was 5.1% less than the 73,541 recorded in November 2010.
Shrinking business with Greece might be a factor, as there was a drop of 14.8% in the number of trips of residents to Greece, to 21,303 in November 2011 compared with 25,006 in November 2010.
By contrast, arrivals on the island continued to climb, albeit at a slower pace than in earlier months.
In November the number of arrivals reached 92,878 recording an increase of 0.3% compared with the 92,643 recorded in November 2010.
There was an increase of 14.7% in tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom, which remains by far the largest market. Arrivals from the UK rose from 30,327 in November 2010 to 34,796 in November 2011. There was an increase of 13.1% in arrivals from Germany, from 14,976 to 16,934 this year.
Arrivals from Russia rose by 5.5% over the year earlier to 6,496. In the first 11 months of the year arrivals from Russia rose by 49.2%.
Total arrivals in January – November 2011 rose by 10.2% compared with the year earlier period, to 2,326,889 compared with 2,111,798 in the corresponding period of 2010.
