Tourism revenue increased in October

Revenue from tourism reached 188.8 million euros in October 2011 compared to 175.5 million euros in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording an increase of 7.5%, according to the results of the Passenger Survey announced on Thursday by the Statistical Service.

The results also show that for the period January-October 2011 revenue from tourism is estimated at 1,642.9 million euros compared to 1,446.5 million euros in the corresponding period of 2010, recording an increase of 13.6%.

The total tourist arrivals for October 2011 reached 259,863 compared to 241,698 in the corresponding period last year.

The total average length of stay of tourists in Cyprus in October 2011 was 9.3 days compared to 9.2 days in October 2010.

The total per person expenditure of tourists in October 2011 reached 726.4 euros compared to 726.2 euros in the corresponding period last year.

The total per day expenditure of tourists for this October reached 78.1 euros compared to 78.6 euros in the corresponding month last year.

The three countries from which Cyprus attracted the most tourists in October 2011 were the UK with 113,205 tourists, Russia with 32,995 tourists and Germany with 22,179 tourists.

These three same countries provided the most tourists in October last year as well. Particularly 107,729 tourists came from United Kingdom, 22,637 from Russia and 19,922 came from Germany.

The longest average length of stay in Cyprus, in October 2011, was recorded amongst tourists from the United States with15.4 days, followed by the United Kingdom and Russia with 9.9 days and Germany with 9.8 days.

During the corresponding period last year, the longest average length of stay in Cyprus in October was recorded amongst tourists from Switzerland with 10 days, followed by the United Kingdom, also with 10 days and Germany with 9.7 days.

The highest per capita expenditure in October 2011 was amongst tourists from the United States with 1,084.6 euros, Russia with 907.2 euros and Austria with 895.7 euros.

In October last year, the highest per capita spending was amongst tourists from Switzerland with 1,021.1 euros, Russia with 957.8 euros and France with 844.7 euros.

The highest daily spending per capita in October 2011 was amongst tourists from Belgium with 106.7 euros, Italy with 101.6 euros and France with 100.5 euros.

In October last year, the highest daily spending per capita was recorded amongst tourists from France with 123.9 euros, Belgium with 115.7 euros and Italy with 114.1 euros.
