Cyprus unemployment rate increases in October

Cyprus unemployment rate reached 8.2% in October, compared to 7.9% in September, according to figures released on Wednesday by Eurostat.

The Euro area unemployment rate recorded a historic high figure, reaching 10.3% compared to 10.2% in September.

The EU27 unemployment rate was 9.8% compared to 9.7% in September.

The unemployment rate for males in Cyprus reached 8.1% (7.8% in September) and for females 8.3% (8.0% in September). For youth under 25 the unemployment rate reached 22.7% (September figures).

In Greece, the overall unemployment rate stood at 18.3% (August figures) compared to 17.7% in July. For males, the unemployment rate reached 15.5%, for females 22.1% and for youth under 25 45.1%.

According to Eurostat, the unemployment rate in the Euro area stood at 10.0% for males, 10.6% for females and 21.4% for youth under 25.

Among the member states, the lowest unemployment rates were recorded in Austria (4.1%), and Luxemburg (4,7%), whereas the highest were recorded in Spain (22,8%) and Greece (18,3%).

Eurostat estimates that the total number of unemployed in EU27 for Septembver was 23.554 million, 16.294 million from the Euro area.
