Cyprus received 178 million euro in EU funding in 2010 according to the official website of the European Union.

It contributed 158 million euro to the EU budget and collected 35.2 million in customs and farm trade duties on behalf of the EU, of which it retained 25% as an administrative fee.

Cyprus received 67 million euro (38%) for regional policy derived from cohesion and structural funds, this exceeded the EU average of 33%.

Farm spending accounted for 73 million euro Farm and 41% of the amount. It is noted that Cyprus was below the EU average of 50%, something that was the case for other ‘new’ member states.

This was partly due to transitional measures decided when the country became a member state in 2004.

Research and development spending in Cyprus was 24 million euro (13%), a figure well above the EU average of 8%.
