Cyprus hydrocarbons and wealth distribution

The Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) and the PRIO Cyprus Centre (PCC) will host a one day conference on “Cyprus Offshore Hydrocarbons: Wealth Distribution and Regional Politics.”
Date: Saturday, 26 November, 9-16:30
Venue: Chateau Status, in the Nicosia Buffer Zone.
The event will be in English, and is open to the public.
The conference will bring together international and local experts. In the morning there will be 2 panels. The first will examine good and bad practices in hydrocarbon wealth distribution, including case studies on Norway and Sudan. In addition it will consider the current debate in Israel on this theme. The second panel focuses on the current discussion and options for wealth distribution in Cyprus, both within and between the two main communities on the island. In the afternoon, the focus will shift to regional hydrocarbon politics. In this third panel, there will be short presentations and roundtable discussion on the hydrocarbon policies for the Eastern Mediterranean that have been adopted by Greece, Turkey, the two sides in Cyprus, as well as Lebanon and Israel.
