In the Greek section of the Financial Mirror last week, we ran a story about Jet2.com promoting paragliding in the North only, whereas the airline promotes itself as carrying passengers to Larnaca and boosting the Cyprus tourism market. We received the following response from Jet2’s agent in Cyprus:

The article in question referred to a Jet2 news release where passengers to Cyprus were informed of the opportunity to Paraglide in North Cyprus.
In consequence of this article and corresponding caption, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays proceeded immediately with the deletion of this contentious article from their website. They have further proceeded with the checking of all previous news releases and advertisements with the purpose of deleting any reference to North Cyprus, if any.
They do accept that this has been a grave oversight on their behalf and procedures have already been put in place for checking all such publications. These write ups are sourced out to third parties and to Media and Advertising companies that most likely find their information searching the internet, resulting sometimes in adverse consequences, as in this case.
It was rather inappropriate however that your report went as far as to specify that this particular article was "provocative" but nonetheless failed to notice that in the Jet2 websites there is ample complimentary material and publications on Cyprus with special references to all resorts and to all their various seasonal activities and sightseeing options.
The Tour Operator and the Airline have long proven themselves to be reliable business partners and staunch supporters of our island. The consistent growth of their operations to Cyprus are unquestionable and this can easily be ascertained not only by their actions but also from their publications. Jet2.com can now boast a flying seasonal programme to both our airports in excess of 80,000 seats and Jet2holidays of a dedicated tour operating package holidays programme involving all our resorts.
As Agents, we do not contest the fact that this oversight has been publicised but that this news release has been termed as "absolutely provocative".
