Cyprus unemployment up in August

Unemployment rose in August on both a nominal and seasonally adjusted basis.
According to the seasonally adjusted data, the number of registered unemployed increased in August to 28,328, from 27,804 in July.
In absolute terms the number of unemployed rose by 19.2% to 26,657.
The increase was mainly in the sectors of trade (an increase of 1,191), construction (781), public administration (425), manufacturing (393), transportation and storage (267), accommodation and food service activities (165), as well as newcomers to the labour market where an increase of 851 was recorded.
