A revised national action plan for renewable energy sources is expected to be ready by mid-September, taking into consideration the contribution of those sources in tackling the energy crisis in Cyprus, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Praxoulla Antoniadou told members of parliament.
She said that the national action plan would increase the island's energy supply from renewable sources to 13% by the year 2020.
Antoniadou said that a ministerial committee met on Monday to discuss ways to expedite the issue of licences and promote the production of energy from renewable sources.
House Commerce Committee chairman Lefteris Christoforou said parliament will continue to support that solar and wind energy be introduced to all households.
George Shiammas, president of the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) said the regulator was carrying out a study to promote the connection of photovoltaic systems to the network of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC), while EAC Chairman Charis Thrassou noted that the state-owned utility supported the use of renewable energy sources and referred to actions taken to install photovoltaic systems and wind parks.
