6,000 EU citizens to vote in Cyprus municipal elections

Nearly 6,0000 European citizens who live permanently in Cyprus are expected to take part in the municipal elections in December, the second time since Cyprus joined the Union in 2004.
Demetris Demetriou, Head of the Election Service at the Ministry of the Interior, said that the number of European Union citizens who are registered on the electoral list presently count 5,243 and this number is expected to rise.
In all, 697 are registered in Nicosia District, 237 in Famagusta, 390 in Larnaca, 1,117 in Limassol, and 2,802 in Paphos. Most of them are from the UK (2,807) and Greece (1,937).
Registrations will close on October 2 and forms are available from District Administration Offices, the Citizen Service Burueaus or downloaded from the website
www.moi.gov.cy .
