Cyprus trade deficit narrows in first half (prov)

The Cyprus trade deficit narrowed in the first half of the year according to provisional data for June.
Preliminary imports in June reached EUR 538.1 mln, of which EUR 367.3 mln were arrivals from other member states of the EU and EUR 170.8 mln imports from third countries.
Total exports/dispatches were EUR 124.0 mln, of which EUR 74.6 mln were dispatches to other member states of the EU and EUR 49.4 mln exports to third countries.
This brought the provisional trade deficit for January-June 2011 to EUR 2.45 bln compared with EUR 2.60 bln in January-June 2010.
Meanwhile, according to revised data for May 2011 total imports/arrivals in January-May 2011 amounted to EUR 2,614.3 mln compared with EUR 2,575.7 mln in January-May 2010.
Total exports/dispatches in January-May 2011 reached EUR 573.9 mln compared with EUR 440.8 mln in January-May 2010.
The trade deficit shrank to EUR 2,040.4 mln in January-May 2011 compared with EUR 2,134.9 mln in the corresponding period of 2010.
Total imports cover from third countries and arrivals from other EU member states, while total exports cover exports to third countries and dispatches to other member states including stores and provisions.
