Cyprus motor regs drop for 27th straight month

Registrations of motor vehicles dropped for the 27th consecutive month in March, falling by 17.6% compared with the year earlier to reach 3,485.
In the first three months of 2011, registrations fell by 11.2% to 9,959 in January – March 2011, from 11,213 vehicles in the same period of 2010.
The fall in registrations of private saloon cars was even sharper, dropping by 12.2% to 7,263, from 8,271 in January-March 2010.
New and private cars are evenly matched. Out of the private saloon cars, 50.9% were new and 49.1% were used.
Registrations of goods conveyance vehicles in the first three months decreased by 26.0% to 1,336 in 2011, compared to 1,806 in 2010 while light goods vehicles declined by 26.5% to 1,086, from 1,477 in January- March 2010.
Heavy goods vehicles registrations fell by 18.7% to 196, while road tractors (units of trailers) decreased by 38.6% to 54.
Registrations of mechanised cycles (more than 50 cc) decreased by 19.4% to 489 in the first three months of 2011, compared with 607 in January-March 2010.
The only category recording an increase was mopeds of less than 50 cc, registrations of which increased by 2.1% to 98 in January-March 2011.
Motor vehicle registrations dropped by 12.5% in 2010 and 25.7% in 2009.
