For the sixth consecutive year, Real Madrid claims top spot as the world’s largest football club with €438.6 million, according to Deloitte.

The Deloitte Football Money League is published nine months after the end of the 2009/10 season, and is therefore the most contemporary and reliable analysis of clubs’ relative financial performance.
And far from being just a game, football is proving to be a lucrative business, even in this economic downturn.
The combined revenues of the world’s 20 highest earning football clubs during the period 2009/10 have surpassed €4 billion for the first time. They generated a total of €4.3 billion in revenue, up 8% on the previous year.

FC Barcelona retains second place, ahead of Manchester United, with €398.1 million, making it a Spanish one-two for the second consecutive year. But with Barca’s multi-year shirtfront sponsorship amounting to €165 million, we will have to wait and see who wins the battle for the top spot in the coming years.
Alongside the Spanish clubs’ success, it is the same 10 clubs that hold the top ten places. In fact, the top six places in the Money League are identical to last year, and all of this year’s top 20 come from the ‘big five’ European leagues; England have seven, Germany and Italy four clubs each, Spain three clubs and France two.
