Decrease in motor vehicles registrations in Cyprus

Total registrations of motor vehicles, decreased by 12.5% to 44.025 in January – December 2010, from 50.291 vehicles in the same period of 2009.

According to a report of the Republic’s Statistical Service, entitled ''Registration of Motor Vehicles'' for the period January-December 2010, one of the main developments during 2010, compared to 2009 was also that private saloon cars decreased to 31.423, from 36.252 in January–December 2009, i.e. there was a decrease of 13.3%.

Of the total private saloon cars, 14.088 vehicles or 44.8% were new and 17.335 vehicles or 55.2% were used cars.

Moreover, goods conveyance vehicles decreased by 4.4% to 6.690 in 2010, compared to 6.998 in 2009.

Light goods vehicles remained at the same levels to 5.586, from 5.584 in 2009, while heavy goods vehicles decreased by 17.3% to 858 in January-December 2010, from 1.038 in 2009.

Road tractors (units of trailers) decreased by 34.6% to 246 in January- December 2010, from 376 in January-December 2009.

The report also says that mopeds<50(cc) decreased by 67.7% to 457 in January-December 2010, compared to 1.416 in January-December 2009.

Furthermore, mechanised cycles>50(cc) decreased by 10.1% to 3.060 in 2010, compared to 3.405 in January-December 2009.
