Cyprus motor reg decline moderates in September

The steep decline in motor vehicle registrations that has taken place over the past two years appeared to moderate in September, as the number of motor vehicles registered fell by 8.6% compared with the same period of the previous year, to reach 3,749.
This was a much milder fall than August, when a drop of 16.8% over the year earlier was recorded. Registrations fell by 24.1% in July.
Total registrations of motor vehicles during the first nine months of 2010 decreased by 15.0% to 34,023, from 40,024 vehicles in the same period of 2009.
Private saloon cars decreased to 23,979, from 28,748 in January-September 2009, recording a decrease of 16.6%.
Of the total private saloon cars, 10,498 vehicles or 43.8% were new and 13,481 vehicles or 56.2% were used cars.
Registrations of goods conveyance vehicles decreased by 3.4% to 5,282 in 2010, compared with 5,469 in 2009.
Light goods vehicles increased by 2.1% to 4,417, from 4,327 in 2009.
Heavy goods vehicles decreased by 19.8% to 661 in January-September 2010, from 824 in 2009.
Road tractors (units of trailers) decreased by 35.8% to 204 in January-September 2010, from 318 in January-September 2009.
Mopeds of less than 50 cc decreased by 67.3% to 367 in January-September 2010, compared with 1,124 in January-September 2009
Mechanised cycles of less than 50 ccdecreased by 13.9% to 2,393 in 2010, compared with 2,779 in January-September 2009.
