European Parliament President in Cyprus for official visit

European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek is in Cyprus for an official visit until October 12.

Today Buzek will be received by President of the Republic Demetris Christofias and meet President of the House of Representatives Marios Garoyian.

Speaking prior to his visit, Buzek said that he was coming to Cyprus with a message of encouragement, support and trust in both leaders to reach a comprehensive solution of the Cyprus problem.

Today he will also meet the leaders of the political parties represented at the European Parliament, and in the afternoon he will address a Special Session of the House of Representatives.

On Monday evening President Christofias will host an official dinner in honour of Buzek.

On Tuesday, the President of the European Parliament will address the ''Renewable Energy Sources'' conference and meet the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community Dervis Eroglu and the leader of the Republican Turkish Party Ferdi Sabit Soyer.

Yesterday Buzek was scheduled to meet with Chairman of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry Manthos Mavrommatis and Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Cyprus and Chief of Mission of UNFICYP Lisa Buttenheim.
